Barrie Minor Baseball is proud to offer players aged 4-18 the opportunity to play organized baseball in the City of Barrie. From 4U Rally Cap through the 18U division, players are provided an opportunity to work on individual and team development skills to enhance their game at an appropriate level.
Most divisions will begin play in mid-May and run through to the last week of August. Most younger divisions will play one game a week at a variety of parks located in Barrie and at the Barrie Community Sports Complex, with a game time start of 6:00 or 6:30 pm. Opening Day is usually the last Saturday in May and Championship Day is usually the Saturday after Labour Day. Depending on player registration numbers, older teams 16U and up may play against other teams in the South Simcoe area.
A uniform will be provided (hat, shirt, pants), and players are to provide their own personal baseball equipment (glove, helmet, shoes).
4U Co-Ed Rally Cap
Rally Cap is a unique program that introduces baseball to players turning 4 during the calendar year. The emphasis of the session is fun, while introducing the basic skills required to play baseball. Players will learn to hit the ball off a tee, catch & field a ball and throw the baseball. Teams will consist of 6-8 players and multiple teams will share a field. Sessions run for 1 hour and will include a variety of drill stations and mini games.
We offer a Sunday morning option as well as the traditional Monday evening for 4U Rally Cap. Players may choose Monday evenings or Sunday mornings during registration. There will be a minimum player registration number required to make the Sunday option viable. We will communicate directly with families should any changes be required.
5U Co-Ed T-Ball
5U Co-ed T-Ball is a hybrid of the introductory skills and games played in 4U Rally Cap and the more traditional T-Ball game. Each week players will rotate between a practice station in the outfield, and 2 mini game stations on the infield to learn hitting and fielding. Teams will consist of 10 players and 3 teams will share a field. Sessions run for just over 1 hour and are for players who turn 5 years old during the calendar year.
We offer a Sunday morning option as well as the traditional Wednesday evening for 5U T-Ball. Players may choose Wednesday evenings or Sunday mornings during registration. There will be a minimum player registration number required to make the Sunday option viable. We will communicate directly with families should any changes be required.
6U Co-Ed Coach Pitch
6U Co-ed Coach Pitch will create the bridge from a stationary ball on a tee to a moving “pitched” ball. Teams of 12 players play a game where the batter hits off a coach under hand tossing a ball from the pitcher position. If the player is not successful, they will use a tee to put a ball into play every at bat. Game scores and standings are not kept. The intention is for players to have fun and enjoy learning the game in a non-competitive environment.
7U Co-Ed Jr. Rookie Ball
7U Co-ed Jr. Rookie Ball is similar to Coach Pitch except coaches will now use a motorized pitching machine to “pitch” to the batter. Each batter is allowed a pre-determined number of pitches and if unsuccessful, a coach will under hand toss a ball to the batter, a tee may also be used to allow the batter to put the ball in play. Game scores and standings are not kept. The intention is for players to have fun and enjoy learning the game in a non-competitive environment.
8U & 9U Co-Ed Rookie Ball
8U & 9U Rookie Ball involves the use of a motorized pitching machine in place of a pitcher. Batters are allowed up to 5 pitches to put the ball in play. Most other baseball rules are used with some limits on runners advancing bases. The intent is to run 8U and 9U divisions separately to provide a better transition for younger players that are using a pitching machine for the first time. 8U is the youngest division where scores and standings are kept.
What’s Next…10U to 16U
The year players turn 10 is the first year that a player from the opposite team will pitch to a batter. Depending on registration numbers, 10U and 11U divisions are typically run separately to provide more opportunities for younger players to develop pitching skills. Most other baseball rules are used, with some rules being progressively introduced through the 10U to 16U divisions.
What is 18U?
Barrie’s 18U teams usually play against other teams in the South Simcoe Minor Baseball Association (SSMBA.ca). SSMBA is a volunteer-run association committed to organizing house league baseball between leagues in the South Simcoe area.
