PLAYER REQUESTS
By submitting a request for two players to be on the same House League team, you are agreeing to the policy below. Please read it before submiting your player request form. Please remember the deadline to submit requests is March 31st, and requests made outside the policy will not be considered.
Player Request Policy:
Our philosophy is that baseball should be about meeting new friends! Please do not expect that your player will be on the same team as a large group of friends from school, another sport, or your neighbourhood.
Aside from the obvious concern about stacking teams, allowing large groups to play together can also make other players on the team feel very excluded. Because of this and the unmanageable number of requests that are made, Barrie Minor Baseball has established the following policy for special requests involving players.
Siblings who live in the same household and wish to play on the same team are the only special requests that will be guaranteed (as long as their birth years place them in the same division). If you are submitting a request for siblings that live in the same household, you only need to submit one form. Please note the relationship in the comments.
In all other situations, Barrie Minor Baseball will consider player special requests as follows:
- A player can request ONE other player they wish to play on the same team with. The other player must, in turn, make the same request. Barrie Minor Baseball will only consider requests where both players have requested each other.
- Requests to play with multiple players will not be considered. If more than one name is provided, neither will be considered.
- ”Daisy chain” requests will not be considered. All requests have to be mutual.
- To ensure fair play, team balancing will take priority over special requests.
- Special requests regarding coaches will not be considered except in very serious circumstances.
- Barrie Minor Baseball will not consider any requests received after March 31st.
- Barrie Minor Baseball will not consider any requests that involve moving a player from a different household. You may only submit requests concerning your own child/player.
- If more than one request is submitted for the same player (e.g., multiple parents/guardians submit a request, unaware of the other) only the newest request will be considered.
Special requests are only available to help families with extenuating circumstances when it is necessary to be on the same team as another player. Please do not make requests that are outside the policy, and do not be upset if you do and they are not honoured. Our volunteers can only manage the volume of requests that are received if they are made within the policy.
If you are making a request so that two people can coach together, please ensure that you each submit the request for your two players to be together, and also inform the league of your intent to volunteer so that head coaches and assistant coaches can be fairly distributed among the teams.

Coaches
House League Head Coaches are responsible for the overall management of a single team. Children of coaches are automatically assigned to the team of the parent coach. See below for more information.
- All coaches must submit a valid, current Police Records Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to the beginnning of the season
- All coaches must complete Safe Sport Training at Coach.ca. There is no cost for this training and only needs to be completed once.
With the assistance of the division convenor, league officials and other volunteers, expectations of head coaches include the following:
Pre-season and Special Events
- Attend Coaches Day
- Pick up uniforms and equipment
- Participate in a short Baseball Fundamentals clinic
- Evaluate players and draft your team (13U-18U)
- Attend Practice Weeks (on regularly scheduled night)
- Meet your team
- Distribute uniforms
- Run a practice/scrimmage (weather and time permitting)
- Help recruit assistant coaches
- Depending on how many assistant coaches volunteer in your division, you may need to ask other parents for help
- Attend Opening Day
- First Games of the season

- Help organize team for individual anf team photos
- Attend Mid-Summer Classic
- Participate as needed (more information will be available at the start of the season)
- Attend Championship Day
- Coach your team’s final game and distribute year-end awards
- Retain undistributed awards and coordinate delivery if any team members are missing
- Return equipment and keys to league officials at equipment bin immediately following your game
Throughout the Season
- Plan and complete a 30-minute warm-up/practice before each game (6U Coach Pitch & up)
- Set up field for designated home games (except at Barrie Sports Complex)
- Manage playing time and positions that is fair and equitable for all players
- Communicate key information out to your team in a timely manner
- Report issues/problems to division convenor (i.e. unsafe/poor field conditions, missing/broken equipment, player injuries, inappropriate conduct of players or coaches)
- Report any weather-related cancellations to convenor that were not a result of the City of Barrie closing fields (provide park name, field conditions and pictures where possible)
Most importantly, ensure that all players and coaches have a fun and rewarding season!
Organizing practices outside of your scheduled game night is optional, but encouraged. We have insufficient field availability to assign practice time for each team, so teams may need to find their own practice location. If there is extra field time available, convenors and coaches will be advised and it will be available on a first come, first served basis.
We will be offering a half-day clinic for head & assistant coaches prior to the start of the season. Topics would include team/parent communication, practice planning, coaching techniques and effective game management. More information will follow closer to the season.
COACH PARTNER POLICYHead Coaches will be able to request their preferred assistant coach. This request must be mutual and must be completed no later than March 31.
When completing the VOLUNTEER FORM FOR CONVENORS & COACHES please indicate your preferred assistant coach in the Coach Partner Field. Assistant coaches will make the mutual request for the Head Coach in the same field. Email or phone requests and requests for more than 1 assistant coach will not be honoured.
This policy is designed to help coaches with personal schedules while acknowledging the extra work that goes into being a Head Coach. It is not designed to build powerhouse teams or teams of only friends. We believe a primary component of youth sport is meeting new people (players & parents both) and learning from different coaches.
Barrie Minor Baseball reserves the right to deny requests that attempt to circumvent the spirit of the policy. We will make every effort to accommodate all valid requests however no guarantees will be made.
